Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager with a strong background in NGO or social enterprise financial management. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of financial policies and regulations specific to Kenya. This volunteer position will play a key role in supporting AReL's mission by managing financial activities remotely and mentoring a Finance Officer based in Kakuma.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight & Reporting:
Develop, oversee, and monitor financial reports and ensure compliance with organizational policies and Kenyan regulations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Lead budget planning and financial forecasting to support project activities.

Policy Implementation:
Ensure adherence to internal financial policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with relevant national and international accounting standards.
Provide strategic input to enhance financial policies aligned with best practices for NGOs in Kenya.

Collaboration & Mentorship:
Work closely with teams based in Kakuma, providing remote support for daily financial operations.
Mentor the Finance Officer in Kakuma, guiding professional growth and skill development.
Act as a resource for team members to address financial inquiries and challenges.

Audit & Risk Management:
Prepare for and assist with financial audits, addressing any issues and implementing recommendations.
Identify and mitigate financial risks that could impact organizational performance.

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management within an NGO or social enterprise setting.
Demonstrated expertise in financial operations involving Kenyan regulations and compliance.

Education:
A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; a professional qualification such as CPA or ACCA is preferred.

Skills:
Strong understanding of Kenyan financial policies relevant to non-profit organizations.
Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, MS Excel).
Excellent mentoring and leadership abilities.
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills to engage with diverse teams.

Position: Facilitator – Women in Tech Class

Type: Part-time (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Reports to: Learning and Development manager

About AReL:

 Action for Refugee Life (AReL), a refugee-led social impact organization in Kakuma refugee camp striving to build a path to a sustainable and self-reliant future for the refugee community.

AReL provides the necessary tools, resources, and support to refugees with the aim of capacitating them to achieve economic and social self-sufficiency by offering a range of on-campus digital training courses that focus on skill enhancement, job market readiness, mentorship, postgraduation support, and entrepreneurship assistance.

AReL is committed to empowering young women aged 18 to 29 with essential tech skills that pave the way for decent employment in global companies. Our Women in Tech Program offers a solid foundation in IT basics, providing participants with the tools to succeed in more advanced tech courses and career opportunities.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a female facilitator with a passion for teaching and empowering women through technology. The facilitator will guide students through our Tech Fundamentals Curriculum, covering essential topics such as computer basics, Microsoft Office, internet safety, website creation, email communication, social media and microtask (Data entry, data annotation, translation and transcription)

This role requires someone who is patient, resourceful, and capable of breaking down technical concepts into easily understandable lessons. The ideal candidate will have experience in IT or a related field and a desire to help women succeed in the tech industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons based on the provided curriculum, which includes topics such as Computer Basics, Website Development, Internet Safety, Email, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), social media, Data entry, data annotation, translation and transcription
  • Facilitate discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to ensure students understand and apply the concepts.
  • Assess and track students’ progress through assignments and assessments.
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to students with varying levels of tech proficiency.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all participants feel valued and empowered.
  • Collaborate with the Learning and development manager to ensure smooth class operations and address any challenges or concerns.
  • Offer feedback and suggestions for improving the curriculum and program delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Female candidate with at least a Diploma in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of IT fundamentals
  • Prior experience in teaching or facilitating workshops, preferably with beginner-level students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse learners.
  • A passion for empowering women and creating a supportive, encouraging environment.
  • Ability to commit to part-time teaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Digital Marketing and eCommerce Trainer will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive training to our participants. This position involves providing instruction on key digital marketing and eCommerce concepts, tools, and strategies. Living Conditions

The Kakuma refugee operation hosts over 283,000 refugees and asylum-seekers from 22 nationalities, primarily from South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, and the DRC, with 70% being children and youth. Staff should be aware of challenging living conditions, with high temperatures averaging 35°C (95°F) and peaking at 38°C (100.4°F) in January-March. The area experiences short rains in November-December and long rains from mid-March to June, causing flooding and limited movement. Hazards include dust storms, heat exhaustion, insects, snakes, scorpions, and a high malaria risk. Medical facilities are basic, with referrals primarily to Nairobi. The compound, offering basic amenities, internet, a cafeteria, and a gym, is a non-family duty station where family visits are not allowed. The increasing refugee population and limited livelihood prospects present challenges to social cohesion and resource competition, requiring resilience and commitment from staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Teach the Digital Marketing and eCommerce Mastery course, covering modules such as Digital Marketing Fundamentals, Content Marketing, Web Design, SEO, Blogging, Video Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design, Digital Advertising, Email Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Influencer Marketing, eCommerce, and Analytics.
  • Practical Application: Guide participants through hands-on projects and case studies, ensuring they can apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
  • Resource Provision: Provide essential resources, support, and mentorship to participants, helping them navigate challenges and achieve course objectives.
  • Progress Assessment: Evaluate participant progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Course Improvement: Continuously improve the course content based on participant feedback and industry trends, ensuring the curriculum remains relevant and effective.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other trainers and AReL staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and outcomes, and report on course effectiveness to AReL leadership.

 

Education 

Undergraduate degree in any related field, e.g., marketing, business administration, communications, or related field, and at least one year of practical working experience as an instructor in digital marketing and eCommerce or a related field.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Digital Marketing Expertise: Proven experience in digital marketing and eCommerce, with a strong understanding of SEO, content marketing, social media, email marketing, and digital analytics.
  • Teaching Experience: Prior experience in teaching or training, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Hands-On Skills: Practical experience in setting up online stores, optimizing user experience, and using analytics to drive sales and customer engagement.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate participants.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Passion for Empowerment: A strong commitment to empowering refugees and helping them achieve self-reliance through skill development.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with other trainers and AReL staff to support participant success.

This role is a full-time position in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Compensation details will be shared with candidates who progress to the interview stage.
